In a time when many people focus on cityscapes and other man-made objects, it’s refreshing to see an artist who is inspired by nature. Oil paintings full of grass and leaves can create the illusion of looking down at the forest floor. As you take in all the different colors and textures, you can almost smell the freshness in the air. Foliage art is a great way to show appreciation for nature's beauty.
Jelena and Aleksandar, a Serbian husband-and-wife team, create lush scenes overflowing with genuine plant life. The oil-based pieces feature patches of lush grass, bushes, and floral specimens that imitate the lush regions of greenery the couple experiences when hiking. “Visiting (a) new environment becomes material that will later serve us in the studio as a sketch for a new painting,” Jelena shares. “We have found a way to bring nature to a home or gallery and hang it on the wall to remind us that we need to think more about how our modern lifestyle affects the environment.”
In addition to working on a few commissions, the artists are currently trying to build a new studio, and you can follow their progress on Instagram. Scroll down to enjoy some of their amazing paintings.
